Once upon a time, Wm studied fine art, filmmaking, and design on the East Coast. Inspired to pursue his passion for painting, he headed out west with nothing but a duffel bag, a portfolio, and a bunch of paste-up and design skills to his name. Not so surprisingly, his skills paid off and he found himself running the advertising art department for BAM Magazine in San Francisco for several years. From there, he went on to become the Art Director for 10 Percent Magazine before taking the plunge as a freelancer, designing for publications such as Mother Jones, San Francisco and Diablo, as well as for several prominent agencies, including Pickett Communications, Foote Cone & Belding Direct West, and Landor Associates.
As a functional design-aholic, Wm has managed to keep the design monkey off his back for more than 15 years by serving as Art Director and Creative Director at William Salit Design. In that role, he's scored work with dozens of brilliant, influential clients, including BEA Systems, Business Objects, and AT&T, as well as many other start-ups, non-profits, and government agencies.
In the brief gaps he enjoys between assignments—you call them weekends—Wm feeds his insatiable habit by designing anything he can get his hands on, including his award-winning home in San Francisco. And, yes, he's still pursuing the painting. You can see that at www.williamsalit.com.
